To & from Ibo Island
Currently Ibo can be accessed by air, or by road from Pemba to Tadanhangue followed by a boat transfer to Ibo. A scenic 25 minute flight over the Quirimba islands is by far the fastest and most convenient option, from $298 per person return - $182 per person from Pemba to Ibo and $170 per person from Ibo to Pemba (there is a departure tax and security tax applicable on the Pemba to Ibo route). Another alternative is a very early start for a rather long and bumpy drive to Tadanhangue on public transport, from where you can catch a dhow over to Ibo. Remember to check the tides before you leave as the boats can only cross at high tide. This journey takes a better part of the day. Kaskazini offers reliable 4x4 road transfers with an experienced guide / driver who speaks Portuguese, English and several local languages, to take you from Pemba to Tadanhangue (+/-3 hours), and then a motor boat to take you from there to Ibo (+/- 1 hour).
