TDM Guest House

TDM: (Mozambique Telecommunications) has a guesthouse on the main street of Ibo with approximately 10 rooms. Rooms are basic without en-suite bathrooms or running water. Occasionally cleanliness leaves a little to be desired…. A bed though for the night! Rooms are from $15 per night with communal bathroom.

Cinqo Portas

Cinco Portas

These beautifully restored old buildings on Ibo Island offer fantastic value-for-money accommodation. Situated on the waters edge, the rooms are set around a swimming pool with fantastic views over the Ibo waters and mangrove channels. Accommodation consists of a main house which has three double beds and one bathroom; an apartment which also can sleep 6 people with one bathroom; and two smaller rooms, both with double beds and en-suite bathroom. The restaurant offers a good menu, and the food we hear, is absolutely excellent! The fully licensed bar serves soft drinks, spirits, and beers. Cinco Portas will be offering boat transfers from Tadanhangue to Ibo in a motor boat when they officially open – a 40 minute ride for those who prefer speed over the traditional sailing dhow! Rates at Cinco Portas are from $30 for one of the smaller traditional rooms per night to $160 per night for the apartment that sleeps 4. No meals are included in the accommodation rate, but they are extremely reasonably priced in the restaurant on site.

QNP community development projects

Quirimbas National Park community development projects

Initiatives are being put in place to establish alternative tourism routes through the Park, and to set up accommodation facilities in local communities, with Ibo being one example. Homestays on Ibo with a local family have been open since December 2006, with proceeds going directly to the families and the Community tourism association. At only $10 per room per night, the rooms all have mozzie nets and clean bathrooms with a small breakfast. Most definitely recommendable!
