Azura at Quilálea, located in the heart of the Quirimbas Archipelago in the north of Mozambique, has opened with a sophisticated finesse second to none as an eco-boutique lodge. Quilálea marine sanctuary provides a haven of luxury and beauty on an entirely private and uninhabited 86 hectare tropical island. The island's name originates from the Swahili word to sleep or 'lala', as the dhows laden with produce would take refuge there overnight. This is the ideal destination for an exclusive and romantic getaway or the perfect honeymoon.
The nine stylish, private en-suite villas built from natural stone with makuti (coconut palm leaves) thatch roofing to keep the cool air in have all been beautifully renovated to provide guests with more space, more comfort, and more decadence. Each one, a stone's throw away from the beach has an uninterrupted ocean vista from the private teak veranda. All villas boast a super King-size bed (convertible to twins), spacious mosquito net, comfortable furnishings, ceiling fans and air
conditioning. One of the new features at Azura at Quilálea is the innovative way clients can control their energy usage – by flicking a switch you can alternate from Eco for basic fan use and lighting, to Luxe which gives you all the mod cons including air-conditioning.
The pool area next to the bar has undergone a substantial makeover, and is now a great place to chill out and relax. The open-sided dining area and lounge, framed by fragrant frangipanis and other colourful flowers both overlook the magnificent Indian Ocean. Imaginative menus are based on succulent fresh fish and seafood prepared in true Azura style complemented by a choice of fine wines from the owners’ 5 estates, as well as wines from Azura’s own Chateau in the Loire Valley,
